Michelle Salinas, Your Language Connection Founder and CEO

Michelle Salinas

Your Language Connection Founder and CEO

Michelle Salinas began learning Spanish in 7th grade and continued until she was fluent, including time at the University of Madrid during her college years.   She grew up on Long Island, NY and always wanted to be a teacher.  Her family moved to the Poconos when she started high school.  She chose Millersville University and dual majored in elementary education and secondary Spanish. Michelle graduated with a BS in Education, and later obtained her certification in ESL.

Michelle was hired by the School District of Lancaster as a bilingual 5th and 6th-grade teacher. When that program ended, she taught ESL and Spanish to Kindergarten through 5th grade. She worked for the School District of Lancaster for more than 20 years and then resigned in 2009 to be home with her young children.
Michelle has always been involved in the community and served on a variety of Boards, including the YWCA and Kids and Cultures. She has been active with Celebrate Down Syndrome, Inc. and served as president for several years.  She is very involved with the PTOs where her children go to school and volunteers for various organizations around Lancaster County.
Michelle founded Your Language Connection in June of 2000 and continues as the CEO.  Her Passion has always been to teach, so she started by teaching friends Spanish or ESL at her dining room table.  She also custom designed and taught a Spanish course for teachers in the SDOL, so they could better communicate with students and parents.  Though she doesn’t teach as much today, because of her four children, she still designs language courses and trains teachers who work for YLC.

Michelle loves to travel and has traveled to 4 continents.  She relishes the opportunity she has, through YLC, to meet people from so many different countries and appreciates what she learns about their culture and journey to the US. She also enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and attending community events.
